Mindy K and Raksha A’s Beauty Recs for Brown Skinned Baes

A few months ago I came across Mindy Kaling’s “Mindy K’s Beauty Recs for Brown Skinned Baes” and I absolutely loved it. I had been looking to overhaul my makeup case, but I had no idea where to start, and she recommended a few products I specifically needed. I’m not a huge makeup fiend, I tend to stick to one or two things and don’t really have the inclination to do anything intricate or time-consuming. Kajal/Kohl, blush and lip balm are my usual go-to’s on a daily basis, and sometimes I like to add eyeliner. But I wanted to change things up, replace some products, try some new looks and have fun with makeup again, so this list came at the perfect time! I bought a few things from Mindy’s list that I needed, and a few new things of my own which I talk about below:

From Mindy’s list:

1.Hourglass Veil Primer.

“If you have dark skin, you likely have oily skin, and who has time for that noise? I don’t! This is so light and glides on easy”- Mindy Kaling

This primer is awesome. It glides on smoothly, and you only need the tiniest amount for perfect coverage- a small bottle will last you ages, and it works great on oily skin.

2.Benefit Brow Kit

“I have like three eyebrow hairs. This kit is a must to make me look not like Joan Crawford. Wax on the left and powder to finish on the right.” – Mindy Kaling

This is the best brow kit I have come across yet. The wax and powder combination give you lots of control over the intensity of the colour and they blend together so well, giving a more natural finish than eyebrow pencils and other powders I have tried.

Products I love (some recent purchases, some long time favourites):

1.M.A.C. Cream Blush. These blushes are creamy and silky and they glide on very smoothly. They also have great pigmentation, so a little goes a long way.

2.M.A.C Gel Eyeliner- I’m a huge fan of gel eyeliners. They glide on easily, there’s no waiting around for liquid to dry, and it lasts for a long time. Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner is great too.

3.I recently bought the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette which is great. I wanted a range of neutral colours in golden hues, as well as some darker shades for a smokey eye, and this does not disappoint, but you have to wear primer or the shadow will crease.

4.Urban Decay Illuminate highlighter. Another recent purchase. I wanted a gold shimmer to brush over my cheeks for a change from my coloured cream blush, and this is a great one for a subtle golden shine.
